My new percussion quartet, Austerity Measures, won 3rd place in the Portland Percussion Group’s “Nothing With Wheels” composition competition. As the competition name suggests, the scoring is for portable instruments (no marimbas, concert bass drums, timpani, chimes, etc.). This piece is scored for claves, bongos, snare drums, tambourines, and triangles as well as metal and wood instruments selected by the performers.
The PPG (Brian Gardiner, Aaron Jester, Brett EE Paschal and Chris Whyte) are great players and colleagues. I am honored that they will premiere the piece in May 2015.
